A fast-moving fire engulfed all three floors of a small apartment building at 242 Albany Avenue in Crown Heights early Sunday morning.
Responders transported three adults to the hospital in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead, according to an FDNY spokesperson.
The fire began around 4:30 a.m. Sunday and took several hours to extinguish, said FDNY Chief of Fire Operations John Esposito. He added that 33 fire units, 138 firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the scene.
One firefighter was hospitalized with a serious but non-life-threatening injury, Esposito said.
Minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, affected six residents of the burning building and eight neighbors, officials said. None were hospitalized.
The fire’s cause is unknown at this time.
