Imam in Newark critically injured in shooting outside mosque

Police are investigating the shooting of an imam outside of a Newark mosque Wednesday morning.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said that at about 6:16 a.m., police responded to a call of a male shot outside the Masjid Muhammad mosque at 197 Camden St.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was transported to University Hospital and is in critical condition.
