New York Rangers Betting Analysis
New York Rangers at a glance
The New York Rangers have gotten off to a decent start to the season and are keeping themselves alive in the playoff hunt. Entering play Friday, the Rangers had a record of 13-10-and-5 with 31 points. That is good for fifth place in the Metropolitan Division and just one spot out of the Eastern Conference Wild Card standings.
Certainly not the worst places to be, but also not what fans expected so far this season after a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. New York finished second in the Metropolitan Division with 110 points, then beat the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes in the playoffs before losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Finals in six games.
The Rangers made a handful of moves this offseason, including signing center Vincent Trocheck from Carolina and re-signing right wing Kaapo Kakko. New York was limited in how much it could spend since it had the hefty contracts of Mika Zibanejad ($8.5M per year) and Adam Fox ($9.5M) on the books.
Zibanejad, Fox, and Artemi Panarin are tied for the team lead in points with 25 apiece, while Zibanejad and Chris Kreider lead New York with 11 goals each. Fox has the most assists with 19, and goalie Igor Shesterkin leads the goalies with 10 wins.
The Rangers have a long way to go this season to improve their record, but they’ll have to keep up with the Boston Bruins, New Jersey Devils, and the rest of the Eastern Conference powers to achieve their ultimate goal.
Rangers to win NHL Stanley Cup +2200
The Rangers are not exactly the favorites to win it all, but they are still regarded as above average. BetMGM Sportsbook has the Rangers at +2200 to win the Stanley Cup, which is 12th best in the league.
They are behind other Eastern Conference opponents like the Bruins (+600), Devils (+1000), Carolina Hurricanes (+1100), Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning (+1400), and the Florida Panthers at +1800. The Pittsburgh Penguins are even with New York at +2200, and the Colorado Avalanche are the favorites at +550.
Rangers to win Metropolitan Division +1600
Sportsbooks and bettors are not very bullish on the Rangers winning the Metropolitan Division. New York has the fifth-worst odds to win the division at +2500, per BetMGM. That puts them behind the heavily-favored Devils (-185), then the Hurricanes (+300), the Penguins (+600), and the New York Islanders (+1600).
We’re only in December, and there is plenty of time for the Rangers to climb back up the standings, but it won’t be easy. They will need to string some wins together and hope New Jersey falls off as the season continues.

New York Rangers Betting partnerships
New York Rangers and BetMGM
Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp and Madison Square Garden Sports Corp (the holding companies of the Rangers and Knicks) are in agreement on a multi-year marketing partnership with sports betting company BetMGM.
The deal names BetMGM as an official sports betting partner of the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, and Madison Square Garden Arena.
The sports betting giant will have its brand all over the inside of The Garden with dasher board advertisements at Rangers games and GardenVision branding. BetMGM also has courtside and ribbon LED signage and basket stanchion signage for Knicks games.
New York Rangers: The History
As one of the NHL’s original six, the New York Rangers have a long and storied history. The Rangers were founded in 1926 by boxing promoter and Madison Square Garden president Tex Rickard and first hit the ice in the 1926-27 season.
They won the Stanley Cup a year later in 1928 and followed that up with two more championships in 1933 and 1940. However, success would be much less common for the Rangers in the 1940s and moving on into the Original Six era (1942-1967). During that time, New York rarely made the playoffs and never won a championship, despite having just five other teams to compete with.
The NHL’s expansion era (1967-1992) was much better to New York. The Rangers routinely made the playoffs and even made it back to the Stanley Cup Final in 1972 and 1979. They lost those championship series to the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, respectively, but it showed that they were a more relevant franchise in the latter half of the 20th century.
The Rangers finally broke through to win the Stanley Cup in 1994. Led by future Hall of Famers Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, and Sergei Zubov, New York defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup.
Since then, the Rangers have been one of the better franchises in the NHL but haven’t been able to win another Stanley Cup. Following the ‘94 championship, New York endured a playoff drought from 1997-2004, then improved with consistent playoff teams. The Rangers were successful in the mid-2010s, losing the Stanley Cup Final to the Los Angeles Kings in 2014 and winning the Presidents’ Trophy in 2015.
