Two planes have reportedly run off a runway in Tanzania in East Africa just hours apart.

The first was a plane travelling with about 30 passengers from Zanzibar to Kikoboga in Mikumi National Park on Tuesday, local time.

As it attempted to land, its main landing gear collapsed, causing the aircraft to veer off the runway and come to a stop on its nose gear, belly of the fuselage and both wings, The Aviation Herald reported.

Then about six hours later another plane with the same number of passengers was taking off from Kikoboga to head to Zanzibar when it suffered a nose gear collapse, veered off the runway and its wing hit a building, according to the publication.

There were no injuries reported but both aircraft were said to have sustained substantial damage.

Tourists travel to Mikumi National Park to see wild animals including zebras, lions, elephants, hippos, and giraffes, as well as more unique animals like the sable antelope, African wild dog, blue wildebeest, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest.

The Tanzania National Parks Authority confirmed the incidents, where two aircraft independently suffered gear collapses and runway excursions, according to The Aviation Herald.

A picture from the scene after the second incident shows the first aircraft on the grass while smoke billows from what appears to be the second aircraft in the background by a building.

The Tanzania Times reported the runway remained open with operations running as normal, but the Aircraft Accident Investigation Branch under the Ministry of Transport would further investigate what happened.
