If the Lasso way is wrong, it’s hard to imagine being right.
The yearly show benefits the Steps Of Faith Foundation, which “reconnects amputees to their communities, families, and workforces by relieving the financial burden of prosthetic care.”
The Apple TV+ co-stars took the stage at the Uptown Theater, in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, for a spot-on rendition of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born.”
Sudeikis, 48, was front and center with former “Saturday Night Live” co-star Will Forte before he began the duet, which won the 2019 Academy Award for “Best Original Song.”
“There is nobody I would rather sing this song with,” Sudeikis said, which almost made it seem as if Forte was preparing to do his best Gaga impersonation.
Thankfully, just in the nick of time, Waddingham, 49, appeared onstage to the delight of thousands of cheering fans.
She then jokingly pushed Forte out of the way, face-palm style, as she belted, “Tell me something, boy…”
The pair’s duet went off without a hitch, with the couple exhibiting the same chemistry they had playing adversaries-turned-friends Rebecca Welton and Ted Lasso for three seasons on the hit series.
Although the season finale of “Ted Lasso” aired in June, Waddingham is not quite sure if the show is actually over.
“I genuinely don’t know,” she told the Hollywood Reporter in May. “That’s what’s kind of unnerving about it, because I’m not ready to say goodbye to Rebecca, or any of them. But also, I’m quite glad that I don’t know, because I think it would have made all of us have play this season, and certainly the season finale, differently. I think we had to take it in earnest and honor it.”
Still, the actress has expressed interest in returning to the role if the opportunity arises.
“All of us would be fools to not entertain it,” she explained. “I don’t think any of us are ready to say goodbye to that world, because it’s been such a happy world for all of us, on and off screen. But I think there’s a danger in even thinking about that now, just in case it doesn’t happen.”
“Ted Lasso” is available to stream globally on Apple TV+.
